Course of the Week: Boca Woods Country Club, Boca Raton, Fla.
Boca Woods Country Club is a 36-hole facility in beautiful Boca Raton, Fla. The club includes the Woods Course, designed by Joe Lee; and the Lakes Course, designed by Karl Litten and recently redesigned by Kipp Schulties. Both courses offer a fair share of challenging shots and gorgeous views. On the Lakes Course, water comes into play on 15 of the 18 holes. Jason Sprankle is the director of grounds for this 36-hole gem, and he knows what it takes to host a great tournament.
I played the course two weeks ago in the Palm Beach GCSA chapter meeting and tournament. I chatted with Jason about the pressure of hosting his fellow turf pros at your own course. “It’s a big deal, hosting your own colleagues out on the course,” Sprankle said to me. “These guys know what good turf looks like, so we want the course to impress.”
Impress it did. The greens were rolling great, and the fairways were really popping. Plus the 36-hole facility offers a fantastic practice area that I wish I would have had more time to enjoy.
OK, enough jibber-jabber from me — on to the beauty shots:
