Best part of the Summit? Annika

By |  December 17, 2013

We were fortunate at this year’s Golfdom Summit to have the First Lady of Golf, Ms. 59 herself, Annika Sorenstam, as our special guest.

Sorenstam spoke to our group for almost an hour, and she had everyone spellbound.

I know some of our attendees were really excited to meet Annika, and to get their photo taken with her. Others thought it was nice she was there, but weren’t going out of their way to get a photo or meet her.

Following her talk? Everyone was a fan. Everyone.

We’ll have a full story in next month’s Golfdom, but Annika spoke about what got her into the game, how she achieved the level of play that she did and why she hung it up when she did. Her talk was equal parts insightful, inspirational and funny.

Following her talk, she opened it up for questions. My group of guys there weren’t shy, because she was asked a couple doozies. She handled all of the questions the way she handled the back nine at a major — cool as a cucumber in a bowl of hot sauce.

My favorite moment? When she was asked her recollections of shooting 59. Someone do us all a solid and at the GIS, make sure a question about the 59 is lobbed her way. She didn’t bring it up herself, but once she got going on it? Hilarious.

I know I’m gushing about Annika, but trust me… she’s as good of a speaker as she was a golfer.
