A small turf world

Another memo in the “it’s a small turf world” journal…

A friend called up with an extra Royals ticket last night. A big game, too, as the Royals needed to sweep the Indians to stay in the hunt (they lost, boo.)

Upon entering the stadium I immediately saw one of my old co-workers from my GCSAA days. About 30 minutes later I was steadying a tray of beers when GCSAA’s Immediate Past President Sandy Queen tapped me on the shoulder to say hi (no beer was lost in that exchange.)

And the most unusual coincidence… the fourth guy in our group, who we had never met previously, is a former assistant superintendent currently working in the Kansas City area for a lawn care company. How did I find this out? When we pulled into the parking lot and popped the trunk for our tailgate, what did I see? A competitor’s magazine! (Another boo!)

That magazine has since been recycled, and subscriptions to both Golfdom and our sister publication, Landscape Management, have been started for our new friend…
