Course of the Week: Carlisle Country Club begins multi-million-dollar renovation

This week’s course of the week, Carlisle Country Club, is entering a new era with a multi-million-dollar renovation initiative led by a local ownership group. The 100-year-old club, founded in 1924, aims to position itself for the next generation by modernizing both its clubhouse and golf course.
Recently acquired by a group of local business leaders, including entrepreneur Mark Toigo, Carlisle Country Club is shifting away from a traditional country club model.
“Our goal is to save the club and bring in a quality management team,” Toigo said. “We want to create a more vibrant, modern experience to attract youth, families and young professionals.”
The club’s new direction is managed by Commonwealth Golf Partners Management, which is already implementing noticeable improvements across the property.

Over the next 24 months, the clubhouse — originally a barn on the property for more than a century — will undergo a major remodel. Planned additions include a sports bar, golf simulators and enhanced outdoor spaces. The golf shop will be relocated inside the main clubhouse and redesigned with more space and modern fixtures.
On the golf course, immediate and long-term renovations are underway. The aging irrigation system is slated for a complete retrofit to restore course conditions. Fry Straka Global Golf Course Design has been retained to consult on enhancements that will improve playability while preserving the club’s historic character.
“The course is a wonderful parkland design with many golden age architectural features,” said Jason Straka, partner at Fry Straka Global Golf Course Design.

Such modernization projects reflect broader industry trends, where private clubs are investing in amenities and technology to attract new members and retain existing ones. According to recent industry surveys, clubs that introduce modern amenities and improved course conditions often see a 10-20 percent increase in new member inquiries within the first year of upgrades.

Carlisle Country Club’s board president, Denise Zimmerman, expressed optimism about the club’s trajectory.
“The new team’s presence has already improved all aspects of our member experience,” she said.
With these investments, the club is poised to remain a vital part of the Carlisle community for decades to come.
