The GCSAA Foundation’s Rounds 4 Research program reached a new fundraising high, collecting $753,135 in its 2025 online auction — an increase of $63,135 over last year. The annual event, held April 21-27, saw more than 1,800 rounds of golf donated, including tee times at renowned venues such as Pinehurst Resort, TPC Sawgrass and Sutton Bay.

The Rounds 4 Research initiative addresses a persistent shortfall in funding for university — based agronomic research, education and advocacy — areas vital to the sustainability and playability of golf courses. The program has raised nearly $5 million since its inception in 2012, supporting projects that tackle pressing issues such as pest control, water conservation and climate adaptation.

For golf course operators and superintendents, the funds raised enable research that informs best practices and operational efficiency. Golfers benefit from improved playing conditions and the long-term health of the sport.

“Rounds 4 Research continues to grow thanks to our generous donors and bidders,” said GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans, emphasizing the community’s role in securing golf’s future.

As environmental and economic challenges intensify, continued investment in turfgrass science is essential for the industry’s sustainability. Programs like Rounds 4 Research not only fund innovation but also foster collaboration across the golf community. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in future auctions or contribute rounds to help advance the game.
