The high school in the Lago Vista, Texas, Independent School District will soon have a new look as construction begins on a new building and the athletic field goes from natural to artificial turf.

School district officials chose Hellas Sports Construction, Austin, Texas, to install Matrix Turf, the company’s proprietary synthetic turf system. The conversion offers several benefits.

Artificial turf will allow the school district to reduce the impact it has on the Lake Travis reservoir. It also will decrease the amount of green space needed for district athletics, recreational sports, and student organizations such as marching band, cheerleading squad, and dance teams. In addition, inlays created with computer-aided design software will reduce the need for separate athletic facilities and enable the school district to hold practice and official games for a variety of sports on the field.

“Lago Vista really wanted our Matrix Turf,” said Hellas Sports Construction Business Development Manager Eric Lutz. “They have seen how well it performs under heavy use, played games on our Matrix Turf, and know that it is a great system that no one else can offer.”

Hellas Sports Construction is in the process of working on this project, and aims to complete the job ahead of schedule. Because the company controls its manufacturing facilities, it expects to be able to meet the school district’s timeline, wrapping up construction of the new athletic field at the end of May.

“We have invested heavily in our Matrix Turf system,” said Hellas Sports Construction President and CEO Reed J. Seaton. “It’s so much more than synthetic turf. Below the surface are innovations only Hellas can provide, which we feel make Matrix Turf the best choice for any athletic facility.”

In addition to field sports, Hellas Sports Construction manufactures and installs proprietary synthetic systems for running tracks and tennis courts.
