Robinson Named Superintendent of Pinehurst No. 2

Longtime Pinehurst employee takes over for Paul Jett, who resigned last month.


Pinehurst Resort has named Kevin Robinson as golf course superintendent of Pinehurst No. 2, host site for the 2014 U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Championships. Robinson replaces Paul Jett, who resigned from the post unexpectedly last month.

Robinson has spent the last 18 years maintaining Pinehurst’s courses, including the last 11 as a superintendent on four different Pinehurst courses. He has led renovation projects on three different Pinehurst courses and will be charged with guiding Pinehurst No. 2 through a restoration conducted by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.

"Kevin has done an outstanding job preparing and maintaining a number of Pinehurst courses, and his proven track record and experience will be invaluable on No. 2,” said Pinehurst President Don Padgett II. “We continually strive to deliver guests an unrivaled experience on No. 2, and Kevin is ready for that challenge.”

In his 18 years at Pinehurst, Robinson has served as the superintendent of No. 3 and No. 5 iand spent the last 11 years as the superintendent on No. 6 and No. 7.

"It’s a dream come true to work on No. 2,” Robinson said. “It’s one of those courses you always hope to have an opportunity to work on. It’s a big challenge, but I can’t wait to get started.”

Robinson first worked at Pinehurst as a grounds volunteer during the 1991 Tour Championship. He started full-time at Pinehurst in 1992. A native of Morganton, N.C., Robinson graduated from North Carolina State in 1992 with a turf management degree.

 

Jett left Pinehurst In mid-May. He had overseen two U.S. Opens on No. 2 in 1999 and 2005.
