Golf Gets WaterSense

June 7, 2007 Golfdom

If you're a good steward of water resources, now you can prove it.

Golf irrigation professionals can be endorsed by the Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense program as part of the Irrigation Association's Certified Golf Irrigation Auditor program.

Those who earn the certifications can use the EPA WaterSense logo along with IA certification logo on business cards, stationary and marketing materials. The label identifies products and services that meet EPA specifications for water efficiency in the same way Energy Star identified energy-efficient products.

"The WaterSense program will make it easier for consumers to find and choose contractors with the skills to evaluate, design, install and maintain efficient irrigation systems," IA Executive Director Deborah Hamlin says in a prepared statement.

WaterSense partners soon will be listed in a searchable national database hosted by EPA consumers.

The EPA also endorses IA certification programs for landscape irrigation auditors, irrigation designers and irrigation contractors, making IA certification programs the first four to be recognized by the EPA WaterSense program.
